Midweek Retreat

Haa ... like I said in the previous posting ... I went on a family vacation to a remote beach of ... Teluk Kemang ... in Port Dickson (remote ler sangaaat) from 2nd Dec - 3rd Dec ... which was in the middle of the working week ...

A couple of months before the trip ... my mom made a booking for a bungalow at the PKNS Bayu Resort ... it is a newly constructed resort home which is exclusively built for PKNS staffs and their family members ... In case you were wondering ... my parents are PKNS staffs (Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor, yeah the one with the controversy over a general manager election) and they have been serving them for more than ... well ... since before I was born, really ... Back to our vacation, we depart from Shah Alam at 10am ... picked up my brother in MMU at 10.30pm ... brim the car with fuel at Dengkil R&R ... and instead of taking the south-bound PLUS highway ... we decided to use the old road to PD ... driving through winding roads and palm estates ... and also got ourselves trailing behind a very slow trailer ... on a hill Before we reached PD ... we stopped by a small town called Lukut where we bought a Secret Recipe's Blackforest cake, a barrel of KFC and some fruits. What's with the cake and the KFC? Find out in a bit ... Then, at around 1pm ... we reached the destination.
My first impression of the place was ... "WOW! TNB's resort is 10 times bigger than ours!" Yeah ... TNB also has a resort situated just next to ours ... and their resort is like a hotel already ... anyway Bayu Resort PKNS was okay too despite the limited land property. It has a 4-storeys apartment ... 2 2-storeys bungalows (semi-detached actually ... dunno why they called it a "banglo") ... a decent pool ... a jacuzzi ... a karaoke room ... a pingpong table and a barbecue grill, whereas TNB only got 8 storeys apartment ... a very big pool with slides for kids ... a karaoke room ... a barbecue grill ... a restaurant ... a gym ... a banana boat ride ... a jetski for hire ... a jacuzzi ... a game room ... a garden ... a few beautiful and hot girls ... a few elevators ... a big gate ... a bla bla bla ...
what a boring resort TNB has ...
3.30pm. Check-in time. Was supposed to be at 2pm but there was some technical problem which prevented it to happen. Anyway the house got 4 bedrooms ... 3 on the 1st floor and 1 on the ground floor ... with each has its own air-conditioning unit. I tagged the ground floor bedroom coz I don't have to climb up the stairs to get there ... and also coz it was next to the kitchen so I can pop something up out of the fridge when everybody was sleeping ... >:). The house also has a decent living room with a 32" LCD TV but sadly ... no Astro ... so because of that ... for the first time ever ... i watched RTM programme ... which virtually lasted for as long as 30 seconds before I went for a date with my beloved lover, the laptop.

4.30pm. Time for celebration. What celebration you asked? Oh ... we were just celebrating my bro's 24th birthday actually. That was why with the Secret Recipe cake and KFC earlier.
After had a couple of thighs and a slice (or two) of cake ... performed the prayer ... and went back out to go swimming at the so called pool. When I got there ... my bro and my dad were already there. With only 4 feet deep and a radius of about 10 feet ... I found the pool to be as spacious as a tempayan. Clearly this pool is only for people with a couple of buoys on their arms. What about the beach you say? I would rather swim in a septic pool filled with mutant jellyfish before I jumped into that beach. The water was murky and you can barely see anything in it. It would probably the best place to dump your toxic wastes coz no Environment Dept officers would dare get in there.

Done with kuak lentang ... head back to the house and had some more quality time with my laptop. At night ... my parents and sister went for karaoke session at the karaoke room in the next building. I don't do karaoke ... so I spent the quality time with my laptop again ... then ... some reason quite unknowned ... I slept earlier than anybody else ... and it was just before 12am ... strange ...
The next morning ... not much went on ... we had our breakfast ... my mom and little sister went to beach then went back to the pool instead because of air pasang ... my dad went somewhere ... my bro went out taking photos ... and me ... glued to my trusty laptop yet again ... since nothing else really gave me the fun I was looking for in a holiday ...

At 12 noon ... we checked out from the resort. On the way back ...we stopped by the Saujana Walk Port Dickson to have our lunch ... but not before visiting a bundle shop called "Baden Baden Bundle" which was just next to the Saujana Walk ...
it had quite a huge collection of bundle clothings and shoes in store ... the price is fair ... if only I had extra money to shop around ... sigh. Once done with the window shopping ... we went straight for lunch at the Walk ... having some satay from Sate Kajang Haji Samuri and curry me & nasi dagang ... the food was nice from Bangi Kopitiam ... and boy the food was nice ... this should be the place to go if you ever come down to PD ...
Once the tummy has been filled ... we stormed back to Shah Alam after we dropped my bro at his college ...

P/S: Selamat Hari Raya Aidiladha to all muslimin and muslimah

Mun-day

... is the most boring day of the week ...

The only consolation I have is that I'm on leave today ... till Wednesday ... which is good ... very good indeed! hahaha ... and tomorrow I will head to Port Dickson for a family retreat ... it has been a while since we last did this together ... previously it was during my secondary school days ... or much earlier than that ...

On the other side of Klang Valley, Dura-emon started her first day at work at her new workplace in Cyberjaya ... wishing you all the best

Enter the Sepang : The Ride of My Life

Fan-squealing-tastic!

That how I would summarize my Sunday, although a couple of friends might be a bit small liver (kecik ati) for not attending their wedding reception today (sorry Nasir & Muzzamil).

The day started like any other normal Sundays. A visit to the local newsstand for a few newspapers, buy some breakfast for the family ... oh wait ... I didn't ... I bought a cooking gas instead ... but basically ... it almost the same as any other Sundays ...

At around 10.15 am ... I depart for Sepang ... slow and easy ride on the Elite Highway at 80-90kph ... had a pit stop at the Dengkil R&R to refuel because the two bars indicated on the fuel gauge was not so convincing ... so I pumped RM40 which I reckoned would be enough for the action later ...

11.15 am ... I arrived at the paddock of Sepang F1 Circuit ... park the car ... and head straight to the Media Centre where the driver's registration took place. After registering ... I was given a couple of PVC stickers displaying my car number, 112 ... which I need to stick it on the car ... and I can tell you it was quite a pain in the a** to stick it perfectly without any bubbles ... but with the sun shining brightly on top of my head and was started to get sweat ... I just simply stick it and begone with it ... boy, if this was one of Che Mat's* assignment ... my botch job will surely be shredded and burnt to crisp

*Che Mat was an Art lecturer of mine back in MMU and he simply doesn't tolerate botch job.

Done with the pesky stickers ... it was time for Safety Briefing at around 12.10pm which was conducted by Mr Brian Eravelly, one of the key figures of the event and also an instructor. Basically he just highlighted the things that was mentioned in the documents sent a few days ago ... the flags ... the pit entry and out ... how to overtake safely ... bla bla bla and so on. Once done with that ... Group 1 drivers (beginners) was gathered at the lunch room where they were assigned to their respective instructors ...

I was assigned to an instructo
r named Huffidz Fahro Rozi, an MME driver and also a My-KART member whom I have never met or seen before although we have joined the club for a few years already. Once we got acquinted, it was time to have a go on the Myvi

1st Session
Huffidz asked me to drive on my own first to assess my current driving skills. Mind you that it was not my first time on the Sepang Circuit ... so I have pretty much the idea of how to get around the circuit quickly. After the assessment ... Huffidz said my racing was okay ... it was just that I need to tweak it a bit on some of the corners ... and so I did. At this stage, I was still trying to find the limit of that little Myvi. But as soon as I found it ... it was exhillarating! I never thought that little Myvi can give you so much fun driving ... it corners well despite the understeer of a front wheel drive ... although you might feel discourage by the lack of power ... but hey ... what do you expect coming from a 1.3 litre standard powerplant?

2nd Session

On the 1st session,
I found out that the transmission change response time is COD DAM slow if you set it to just "D" without overdrive (yeah yeah go ahead laughing at me for using an automatic transmission car) ... so on the 2nd session... I play around a lot with only two gears ... the 2nd Gear ("2") and 3rd gear ("D" overdrive). You won't get to change to 4th gear that often in Sepang if you really throttle the engine till the red line (7000 rpm)

Anyhow, while driving the Myvi on the limits and try out a few racing lines into the critical corners, I was caught up with a VW Passat 2.0 ...
This guy was fast on the straights ... but slow on corners. I would say it was one of the most exhilarating drive I've ever done ... when on the straight piece of road ... he would definitely left me to eat his dust ... but on the corners ... I actually managed to catch up again with this Passat ... and a darn close one too! I could actually saw my car's reflection on the Passat's rear bonnet ... maybe just a foot in length at 70kph (i think) at Turn 5 and 6 ................. okay fine, I made up the length, but I promise you it was darn close!

3rd Session
Final session Group 1 drivers. It was already around 4.30pm and the track has become much cooler compare to the earlier sessions. I once again out to push the envelope of limit for standard Myvi auto. But amidst the eagerness to find the limit, I somehow misjudged Turn 7 with massive entry speed and eventually spin the car 90 degrees to the right and went on off track ... luckily I didn't get to introduce the car to the wall and managed to get back on the action a few seconds later ... syukur alhamdulillah ... here's a depiction of what happened (more or less ler ...):

After the incident, I kept on driving the Myvi to the limit. I was getting faster and faster through the bends ... although it was a bit disappointing since I can't get my full lap times recorded as both of us didn't have a stop watch. But I do managed to find out that this little Myvi could go up to 140kph on the main straight (mind you the straight was only 900m long ... so you don't actually have enough room to see how fast this sucker could really go with all it's power).

After the chequered flag had been waved to signal the end of the session, Huffidz managed to share a few secrets in taking a few corners at Sepang ... and it was a very valuable one indeed!

Also ... remember the RM40 fuel I pumped earlier? Yeah ... it's all gone just for that three sessions which is only for less than 90 minutes drive! Hahaha! See ... when it comes to speed ... all the fuel saving DVVT stuffs doesn't really come to effect ... if u wanna go economy ... maintain rpm 2500 or lesser only at all times ... dont turn up the aircond ... and dont fully wind down the door mirrors ... just 1/3 should be enough ...

Back at the pits, I thanked Huffidz for his support by being the my instructor for the day and also for sharing some of his experiences on track so I can learn better. I would also like to thanked HPC for having such a great event for us speed freaks. Looking forward to the next HPC event!

P/S: to all Homeroom E buddies. I met Azam Razali earlier and he became boroi like me too! Hahaha! But a boroi with a Mini Cooper S ... cilakak! jeles jeles! Here's his number : 016-3 2222 78. Tak sempat bergambar ngn dia.

Enter the Sepang : 2 days to go

What better ways for speed freaks to learn the way of the professional race car drivers other than learning from the pro themselves?

On Sunday, my little black Myvi and I will be participating for the first time in the High Performance Challenge (www.hpcevents.com) in Sepang F1 Circuit organized by HPC Events. This is not a racing event however; it's an event where speed enthusiasts will test their car performance and driving skills to the limits (or somewhere near), with the help of professional instructors whom mostly consists of professional race car drivers. For this event, the organizer decided to use the full length of the track, so this should be a blast! I intend to find out how fast this little pony will go around the circuit and also the fastest speed it can go with me at the wheel. Hehehehe ...

There will be 2 sessions, the morning session and the afternoon session. I'm joining the latter which will start at around 1pm. The drivers are divided into 3 groups, according to their level of driving skills. Group 1 for first timers and beginners, Group 2 for intermediate drivers (usually drivers who had gone through Group 1 before), and Group 3 for experienced drivers (mostly consists of race car drivers and also those from Group 2 who has been given a consent by the instructor)

I, being a newbie to the event, has to join Group 1. Some of the instructors whom I knew from My-KART (a local karting club) were quite surprised to see that I registered for that group because being an avid kart driver myself; they thought I might have developed some driving skills already. But hey, this is no go-kart. It's a car and car goes bloody fast. If you inadvertently introduce your car to the wall, it will also be bloody. I don't want to take chances here.

3 days prior to the event, the organizer emailed me some documents (mostly rules of conduct, timetables, etc.) which I need to read through to get myself prepared and organized for the event.

Looking at the documents, it made me pumped up and nervous at the same time.
Can't wait for it!

Stay tuned for Part II
